Item type:Publication, Gender issues in fundamental physics: A bibliometric analysis Open PDF(2021)Strumia, A.I analyze bibliometric data about fundamental physics worldwide from 1970 to now, extracting quantitative data about gender issues. I do not find significant gender differences in hiring rates, hiring timing, career gaps and slowdowns, abandonment rates, citation, and self-citation patterns. Furthermore, various bibliometric indicators (number of fractionally counted papers, citations, etc.) exhibit a productivity gap at hiring moments, at career level, and without integrating over careers. The gap persists after accounting for confounding factors and manifests as an increasing fraction of male authors going from average to top authors in terms of bibliometric indices, with a quantitative shape that can be fitted by higher male variability. © 2021 Alessandro Strumia. In this Commentary, we describe one of three collaborative projects – the Gender Gap project – funded by the International Science Council (ISC) and the 11 partners of the project. This project is the only one of the three that addresses an issue of such relevance for society. The objectives of the project are to provide evidence on which interventions can be based, and to make available material on best practice that has been proven by test. The project includes a joint global survey and a bibliometric analysis, both of which have an emphasis on comparing and contrasting results from less developed countries and from more developed countries.Item type:Publication, Contributions by women faculties of physics from select institutions of Delhi: A scientometrics study Open PDF(2017) ;BebiKumar, S.The present study aims to bring out the contribution of women faculty in the discipline of Physics in select institutions of Delhi. The study covers a total of 44 women faculties and their 802 publications during the period of 2011-2015 collected from various sources. The study presents a scientometrics analysis of 463 journal articles. The study focuses on authorship pattern, research interest areas, most productive authors, most used journals etc. The study indicates that multi-authored papers were dominated. Ratnamala Chatterjee from IIT Delhi found to be the most productive author and Journal of Applied Physics is the most preferred journal. CSIR-National Physical Laboratory was leading institution in publishing journal articles (145). It was noticed that majority of women authors preferred to be the second author while writing the paper jointly. © 2017, DESIDOC.
