Who We Are

genderm⊛re is a permanent documentation centre dedicated to the study, research and dissemination of knowledge on gender inequalities in research, from an intersectional perspective.
Established in 2023, we form part of the University Library System of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia and work to collect, organise and make accessible knowledge and resources on the relationship between gender and the world of research.
Our activities are structured around three main areas:
  1. we document and organise specialist resources and printed outreach material;
  2. we analyse data and phenomena related to gender inequalities through bibliometric studies and qualitative surveys on scientific output and the careers of Unimore research staff;
  3. we promote knowledge and awareness through outreach initiatives aimed at the academic community and the general public.
Through our Digital Library, genderm⊛re, we collect and highlight scholarly output dedicated to gender inequalities in research, providing a gateway to resources useful for research, training and further study, based on an intersectional approach.
We also promote opportunities for discussion on gender equality in the academic context:
  • genderm⊛re Book Club: the centre’s first young adult reading group, aimed at 15–25-year-olds and developed using participatory design methods;
  • Educational initiatives for schools: short educational modules focusing on gender inequalities in study and research, aimed at upper secondary school classes;
  • Training activities: workshops and seminars on the centre’s key themes, offered to other research bodies, universities and cultural institutions.

MISSION

We believe in open, accessible and reliable knowledge, in accordance with the principles of equality and non-discrimination. This is why we work every day to ensure equitable access to information and knowledge, to promote critical thinking and freedom of research, to combat disinformation and to support lifelong learning, making knowledge increasingly accessible. We operate in accordance with current legislation and the professional principles set out in the AIB Code of Ethics for Librarians and the IFLA Manifestos.
We believe in collaboration and the exchange of experiences: this is why we build relationships with libraries, institutions, research bodies and associations that share our objectives, participating in local, national and international initiatives.

WORKING GROUP

The Centre’s activities are coordinated by a core team with complementary skills, which continuously oversees the project’s development, the definition of areas of activity, the management of the Digital Library, and collaborations and research and outreach initiatives. We are also supported by staff with specialist skills dedicated to the care of the bibliographic heritage, the cataloguing and updating of the collection, and the identification of scientific literature in specific academic disciplines.
As part of the University Library System, we participate in the main cooperative library services, including the Modena Library Network, the National Library Service and ACNP, thereby promoting the sharing of resources and the circulation of knowledge.
Our services are provided in accordance with the Charter of Services and the Regulations of the University Library System (SBA), together with the Internal Regulations of the genderm⊛re Documentation Centre, to which readers are referred for further information.
