Abstract
Over the past decade, the worldwide issue of gender disparity in academic research has rapidly gained momentum, as reflected by the exponential increase in PubMed citations focusing on this problem in recent years. Women encounter numerous barriers to promotion and career advancement in academic medicine, not least that articles written by women tend to have fewer journal citations than those written by men. Without peer recognition, academic research by women will have a far less global impact and consequently, women’s path to achieving senior leadership positions will continue to be hindered. © 2022 Healthbook TIMES Oncology Hematology.
