Abstract
The increasing participation of women in scientific and technological careers has been the focus of several studies that seek to outline their academic trajectory. Studying a country’s scientific information is relevant to understanding the evolution of science and broadening perspectives on the current scenario. Thus, the study aimed to analyze the participation of all female PhD students who have curricula registered in the Lattes Platform and whose registered gender is female. The data collection came from the Lattes Platform which contains curriculum information available in open access. Curriculum records were collected at the beginning of March 2019, totaling over 6,126,000 curricula. From this set, and still using the framework, 307,780 curricula of individuals with maximum completed doctorate degrees were selected. Finally, the respective curricula were selected from the group of doctors whose registered gender is female, totaling 149,850 records used for analysis at the end. The data of the PhDs were grouped regarding academic background, publications, productions, orientations, major areas of activity and it was possible to analyze the evolution of scientific and technological production of the set in a temporal way. Studying the various aspects of gender difference in general and particularly in science and technology, as well as being relevant, can be a source of inspiration for government policies and programs that seek to promote change, encourage and value women’s participation in science. © 2019, Brazilian Institute for Information in Science and Technology.
